Jen Tompkins - Owner/Director
Jen Tompkins has been teaching all disciplines of dance and choreographing competition routines for more than twenty years. She has studied Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Contemporary and Hip Hop. Jen is currently the owner/director of planetdance located in Canton, MI. Her students have won numerous scholarships, overall awards at conventions and competitions, full scholarships to Point Park in Pittsburgh, toured with Meghan Trainer, industry commercials and toured with several recording artists. Jen has traveled with several dance conventions and has choreographed for “Americas Best Dance Crew.” Her cutting edge choreography has won numerous awards at both regional and national competitions and teaches workshops all around the United States. She loves teaching dance and instilling the same love in her students, which carries through all their years of dance.
Ryan has been dancing for over 15 years and has been a teacher at planetdance for four years. Ryan grew up inside planetdance as he watched his sisters train, he quickly became in love with the art. Ryan grew up training in ballet, lyrical, jazz, hip hop and contemporary. He traveled all over the country taking classes and conventions with some of the most sought after choreographers. Ryan's unique and amazing style has won overalls and choreography awards at both regional and national competitions.
Kendall began dancing at age 3 and has been with planetdance ever since! She has trained in all styles of dance including jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop, musical theatre and lyrical. As a competitive dancer, Kendall has won numerous overall awards and many scholarships at conventions all over the country. She is a 4 time winner of the "planetdancer of the year" award. In 2015, Kendall won the title of Wayne/Westland Junior Miss where she won the categories of talent, fitness and interview. She has trained under some of the best choreographers in the industry and has been teaching for the past 5 years. Kendall danced competitively for 15 years and has competed with some of the best dancers around. Teaching at planetdance is something she absolutely loves to do and being able to share her love of dance with the students is something she has always dreamed of.
Courtney Stone began her dance training at the age of four and quickly developed a passion for the art. She trained extensively in Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip-Hop and Musical Theatre as a dancer. As a competitive dancer she won numerous overall awards and scholarships to train with some of the most sought-after choreographers. Courtney has been teaching all genres of dance at Planetdance for the past 14 years, specializing in Tap. Her students have won numerous overall awards and national titles at various competitions. Courtney loves sharing her passion for dance with her students and enjoys inspiring them by providing a positive environment for them to develop their love of dance.
Kristen Quesada has been a dance educator and choreographer for 25 years. She has directed and choreographed countless plays and musicals, and spent several years traveling the country as a spokesperson for the International Auto Show circuit. Her dance background includes professional training in all genres of dance, specializing in tap, jazz, musical theatre, contemporary and lyrical. Many of Kristen’s students have gone on to win state and national titles, and overall high score awards. Kristen’s passion for training students to maximize their performance potential has proven successful, as many of her former students are working professionally as dances and actors for Disney World, Disney Tokyo, Hollywood Studios, Busch Gardens, in Las Vegas shows, on cruise ships, in music videos, on nationally televised awards shows, in national commercials, for The Radio-City Music Hall Rockettes, and on Broadway. Kristen is a member of various professional organizations, including Dance Masters of Michigan and Dance Masters of America.
Dominique found her first love when she was three years old when she took a dance class for the first time. Dominique competed locally and nationally throughout her youth up until her senior year of high school and has been dancing for 20 years. After graduation, she began her college education at Marygrove College pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in dance. She trained with professors such as Jordeen Ericson, Penny Godoldo, Tracy Halloran, Stephen Hadala, Jonathon Cash and Zandria Lucas. Two years later, she transferred to Wayne State University and auditioned to be a part of the Maggie Allesee Department of Theater and Dance. She has had the opportunity to work with artists such as Lisa LaMarre, Jennifer Harge, Haleem Rasul, Della Hamby, and Meg Paul. Dominique graduated with a BFA degree on a Talent Scholarship in April of 2020. She has been a member of the Contexture Dance Detroit Company for three seasons, under the direction of Tracy Halloran. In 2016, she traveled to New York City with the company and performed at the DUMBO Dance Festival. Dominique has performed at multiple dance festivals such as Oakland Dance Festival, Detroit City Dance Festival, and Motor City Choreography Collective. Dominique has been teaching and choreographing for local studios for 4 years in all styles of dance. Her passion is to share her love for dance to those around her.
Kyrah Gradford-Dye is a recent graduate from Wayne State University, holding a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Dance Performance. Throughout her college career which began at Marygrove College, she has performed in works by Levi Marsman, Roger Jeffrey, Molly Shanahan, Meg Paul, Della Hamby, among others. Kyrah has also had the opportunity to be featured for Wayne State University through TV commercial and billboard advertising. The start of her training began at a small studio located in Detroit, MI nineteen years ago. Kyrah realized her love for movement while at a performance as a young toddler and was suddenly enrolled in dance classes by her mother. Her studied styles included ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop. Kyrah went through a phase where her desire for movement had diminished. She picked up dancing in high school as a pommerette in the school marching band, and remembered the joy movement brought to her life. When she enrolled in college at Marygrove, she retrained in technical movement philosophies and has been devoted to performance since. Kyrah currently holds a company member position for the 4th year with ConteXture Dance Detroit & plans to further her performance career across the country. Since graduating, she has started her career with being featured in a music video for an R&B artist, Neisha Neshae.
Kennedy Phelps is a dancer, choreographer and teacher in the Detroit Metropolitan Area. She is a graduate of Western Michigan University, and has received a BFA in Dance. While at Western Kennedy has performed in works by Paul Taylor, Yin Yue, BAIRA, Kate Skarpetowska, Brendan Duggan, Jennifer Archibald, Mike Esperanza, Carolyn Pavlik, David Curwen and Monique Haley, and was a member of Western Dance Project under the direction of Whitney Moncrief.
